A subset of the Climate Coaching Alliance got together to discuss Our Future of Work, the following is a summary of the discussion we had. Hopefully it will resonate with you, if you would like to continue the conversation contact nina and book a free session at ninadar.com
A summary of the themes covered:
• Health and wellbeing. It’s place in and outside of work and in coaching and for coaches. Saying yes when you need to and no when you need to (link at the end of the update)
• The need to make sure we are always thinking globally, different parts of the world do view things differently
• Going outside and being with nature allows people to get different insights
• Different timelines are always going to exist, we are rarely all on the same page at the same time
• Let’s not forget that “the global north” typically holds the power, humility is required to bring everyone together
• How much can we influence topics that are not in a coach’s agreement / contract
• Influencing future leaders and SME’s
Opportunities:
- Least change for greatest impact approach
- Positive measurement tools, good news monitoring
- Blended approach using a mixture of tools; coaching mentoring, consultancy, education, action strategies, collaborative working
- “Choice editing” where companies will decide what to cancel based on sustainability strategies rather than profit or demand
- Technology, more data that can provide better decision making, faster results
Barriers to change:
- Money and the focus of business to focus on the bottom line
- Technology, more AI coming into coaching, “coach bots” being programmed to assist with basic coaching
- Consumption
- Privilege
- Over expenditure of energy, underestimating what it takes to be positive when things are going in the wrong direction
- Measurement tools
- The need for instant gratification
It was clear in this session that a lot of the conversation was focused on the role of coaches, revisiting a conversation had a few times in previous sessions “who are we, and what are we becoming as climate coaches?”
For anyone who is confused refer to the CCA Global Statement on Climate Change, link at the end of the update.
What is clear is the CCA has bought us all together under a common goal to use our skills and knowledge to influence where we can.
